campaign, averaging 7.4 minutes per game. DaCruz, who will be uti-
lized at the point, has the ability to penetrate and finish in traffic, as
well as hit from beyond the arc, and has a knack for seeing the entire
floor and finding her open teammate.
There will be three new faces competing for time in the Stags back-
court in rookies Kristin Schatzlein, Lizzy Ball, and Christa
Scognamiglio.
One of the goals for Frager has been to get longer and taller at the
guard position, and the 6-foot Schatzlein fills the role and has the abil-
ity to play all three guard positions. Schatzlein earned four varsity let-
ters at Tolland High School where she scored more than 1,700 points.
She was named Connecticut’s Gatorade Girls’ Basketball Player of the
Year in 2012 after averaging 18.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists,
and 4.2 steals per game and helping the Eagles to a 24-4 record and
a Class M State Final.
Ball, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Essex, Mass., brings with her a
physical style of play both offensively and defensively. Ball spent the
2011-12
season at the New Hampton School where she averaged
12.7
points, 8.3 assists, and 7.2 rebounds per game en route to All-
New England Prep School honors. She earned five varsity letters at
Manchester-Essex Regional High School where she averaged 18.7
points per game and was a 1,000-point scorer.
The addition of Scognamiglio marks another deep three-point scor-
ing threat for the Stags. The 5-foot-10 guard graduated from Pearl
River High School as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,685
points. She was named the Rockland County Player of the Year by the
Journal News three times. As a senior, she was chosen as the 2012
NYS Class A Player of the Year after averaging 16.7 points and 1.8
three-pointers per game.
The Post
Senior Brittany MacFarlane has always been a formidable presence
in the post for the Stags in 92 career games. As a junior, she cement-
ed her standing as crucial piece to the Stags puzzle by winning the
2012
MAAC Sixth Player of the Year Award. MacFarlane appeared in
32
games, averaging 25.4 minutes, 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per
game to go along with 19 blocks, 23 steals, and 40 assists. Whether
it is off the bench or in a starting role, MacFarlane is expected to dom-
inate and provide the Stags with senior leadership.
Junior Katie Cizynski was a match-up problem for many opponents
last season with her ability to shoot from beyond the arc. The 6-foot-2
Cizynski played in all 33 games, starting 26 of those contests, and
averaged 18.7 minutes, 5.6 points, and 3.7 rebounds per game along
with 19 blocks. She has continued to improve her back-to-the-basket
game and is expected to be one of the Stags' top forwards.
Frager will have three other options in the paint in senior Laura
Vetra, junior Brittany Obi-Tabot, and junior college transfer Casey
Grace.
A versatile post player, the 6-foot-2 Vetra appeared in 27 games
last season, averaging 7.4 minutes off the bench with 1.2 points per
game and 11 assists. She has appeared in 75 games over the last
three seasons with 168 career points. Obi-Tabot, a junior, has contin-
ually improved her post game and is expected to be a threat off the
bench. She appeared in 17 games, averaging 3.8 minutes off the
bench as a sophomore.
Grace, a 6-foot-1 forward from Carrigaline, Ireland, comes to
Fairfield after playing for two seasons at Dawson Community College
in Montana. Grace brings a European-style of play to the post with
length and versatility. During her sophomore campaign at Dawson,
she averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game en
route to All-Mon-Dak Athletic Conference honors. Grace also brings
with her high-level international playing experience. She played club
basketball for the Glanmire Basketball Club and was named the
Female U18 International Player of the Year by the Irish Examiner after
helping team to a national championship.
