MEET THECOACHES
4 2012 Stags Field Hockey
Emily Janis begins her first season as a part-time assistant coach with
the Fairfield University field hockey team after graduating from Fairfield in
2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in New Media (Television/Film Production)
and a minor in Communications.
After graduating, she began her work in television and continued to play
and coach field hockey. She has a broad range of expertise in television
working on the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver with NBC. While in
Vancouver, Janis played for their highest ranked club team, the Vancouver
Hawks FH Club.
Following the Olympics, Janis moved back to New York City where she
worked on a number of projects including NBC’s “The Nate Berkus Show”,
commercials and freelance work for ESPN W. She continued to play field
hockey on the Northeast Field Hockey Association Club of New York City and
began coaching the Strong Island Field Hockey Club where she remained for
two years. In 2011, along with coaching the club team and playing, Janis
also accepted a position as coach of Harborfields High School’s field hock-
ey program where they earned the sportsmanship award for all of Suffolk
County, Long Island.
She returns to Fairfield University as a part-time assistant coach, hop-
ing to bring a fresh supply of new ideas, energy and enthusiasm to the pro-
gram. Janis also hopes that her background in media will help the team in
their use of film.
Janis spent four years at Fairfield University completing her undergrad-
uate degree and playing for the Stags. She built an impressive resume both
on and off the field. She is a member of the All-Decade Team which was
named in 2011 and is ranked in four different career categories. She is
eighth in all-time points (48), tied for ninth in goals (16), sixth in assists (16),
and tied for second with four game-winning goals. Off the field, Janis was a
member of the NFHCA All-Academic Team in 2008.
