Fairfield returns nearly all, 97.6 percent, of its offensive production
from last season. All eight players that touched net in 2011,
including leading goal scorer Carly Beyar. The junior, who used to
play in the back, now joins an attacking group of forwards that
should provide opponents with defensive troubles. Joining her up
front will be the team’s active point scorers, Kasey Schulz (6G, 2A)
and Shannon Fay (5G, 4A), who enter the year at 14 points apiece.
Also in the mix up front will be junior Jac Ley and Ashley Small who
impressed during an All-MAAC Rookie Team season in 2011.
O’Brien also expects Emily Wieczorek, a natural lefty, to contribute
up front this season.
Head coach Jim O’Brien again has the luxury of a strong
corp of veteran players, entering the 2012 campaign
with 16 field players, including six backs, that have colle-
giate starting experience. Add to that eight others that
have been in the program for at least a season and six
rookies, and the Stags are well stocked to make a run at
another succesful season and to compete for a MAAC
Championship.
