General: An athletic player that has the ability to play at numerous
positions on the floor. With her leaping ability, she is best-suited to a
wing spot, but her ball-handling ability makes her an option at the
point as well. Akon-Akech possesses an explosive first step.
Career Overview: Appeared in 51 games with the Stags and played
443
total minutes (8.7 mpg) … She has recorded 94 points (1.8), 70
rebounds (1.4), 24 steals, 28 assists, and is a career .653 free throw
shooter (32-for-49).
Sophomore Year (2011-12): Appeared in 30 games, averaging 11.7
minutes, 2.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. She Shot 52.4 per-
cent from the floor and had 21 assists and 16 steals … Came off the
bench at St. Peter’s on January 4 to score six points, block two shots,
and record a season-high three steals and three rebounds in 19 min-
utes … Logged a career-high 24 minutes at Siena on January 24, post-
ing four rebounds … Helped pro-
pel the Stags into the MAAC
Championship final by tallying a
career-high nine points, including
a 5-for-6 effort at the free throw
line, and a career-high seven
rebounds in the semifinals
against Siena on March 3 … She
tallied three points and three
steals in WNIT game against
Drexel on March 15.
Freshman Year (2010-11):
Appeared in 21 games during her
rookie season with the Stags,
averaging 4.3 minutes per con-
test ... Finished the year with 20
rebounds, eight steals, seven
assists and two blocked shots.
She was effective from the floor
throughout the year, shooting

percent (9-17) … Scored 23 points over the course of the season,
with a season-best six points in the November 28 win at Lafayette …
Came off the bench in that game to play a season-high 13 minutes
and recorded a season-best four steals … Made her collegiate debut
with a four-minute, one-rebound effort against Quinnipiac at Alumni
Hall on November 12 … First collegiate points came at the free throw
line, 2-2, in the November 19 win at home over Cornell … Akon-Akech
saw a dozen minutes of action at Hofstra on December 5, finishing
with five points and a career-best four rebounds.
Before Fairfield: Christelle Akon-Akech attended Blair Academy, in New
Jersey, where she earned three varsity letters in basketball … She, a
team captain, was selected as the team MVP as well as earning All-
Area and All-League accolades over the course of her career … Also
lettered in cross country and track & field.
Personal: Daughter of Ayak and Andrew Akon-Akech … Her father
serves as South Sudan’s ambassador to France … Has a brother, Kuol,
and is the niece of Fairfield basketball great Ajou Deng and Chicago
Bulls star Luol Deng … Major is political science.
